Garner Hotel Maastricht by IHG

I slept so well in the comfortable, cosy room, and the view from it was lovely. I was here on a work trip and found the hotel convenient despite being outside the town centre, with a bus stop just around the corner and direct service into town. There’s also a beautiful park nearby where I could walk, relax, and watch swans, birds, and other animals. Breakfast was delicious, and the staff kept going out of their way to make sure everyone was looked after. Thanks for everything 😊

The weak internet was the one real drawback. I could barely use my laptop. Everything else was fine, and I’m sure I’ll return to Maastricht and stay here again. I got great sleep in the quiet room, which was a treat after living in a student dorm. At check-in the staff helped me quickly and spoke fluent English. My friend and I also found the small fridge useful during carnival, when most cafes and restaurants were closed, since we could stock up on snacks. The location worked well for getting around without a car. Supermarkets are nearby, there’s a huge park next door, and both the bus and train stations are within walking distance. The city centre is close too.

The room had plenty of space, but the broken temperature control made it feel like a hot, stuffy box. The washbasin drained poorly too, a basic annoyance. Service felt transactional and focused on making money. If you’ve forgotten a toothbrush, don’t expect them to simply help out. They sell them like a convenience store, and €5 for an average Kruidvat brush felt steep and a bit nickel-and-dimed. Breakfast was just average, enough to fill a hole but nothing to look forward to. The room’s size had potential, but the poor care and substandard service made this a below average stay I won’t repeat.

We booked at the last minute for one night as a couple, from 01 to 02 November 2025. This was my first stay at a Garner property, and after this experience it may be my last. There seemed to be almost no guest amenities. The location was a little hard to reach, though that isn’t the hotel’s fault. There were no bikes to rent, and the staff out front politely declined to help arrange a taxi to the city centre. They were very unfriendly, and I wasn’t offered any Diamond perks.
