Hotel Pauw

The service was terrible, with no attention to customers. We came for lunch on a Saturday, market day, hoping to sit down at a café or restaurant. When we asked the girl on the terrace for napkins, she said she'd bring them but didn't. We had to ask another waiter, who eventually brought some. We ordered nachos with pulled pork, guacamole, tomato sauce and sour cream, plus two beers. The wait was a while, but that was okay. The pulled pork turned out to be a cold, premade paste. That seemed strange since it is normally hot and freshly made, and after the wait we expected it to have been prepared there. We ate it anyway. We ordered another beer with the rest of the meal. After 5-10 minutes with nothing, we asked the same girl, who said it was coming. Another 10 minutes passed, still nothing. We asked again and got the same answer, then waited another 10 minutes before finally going inside to get it ourselves. It took 30 seconds because it was just a bottle. We don't recommend this place at all.

For budget travelers, I'd recommend it, and it worked perfectly for our one-day stay. The room was clean, spacious, and the sofa bed was set up when we arrived. It's a really central base for exploring Nijmegen. Check-in is through the bar and then at the back, where the staff will guide hosts to the booth. The room was getting painted, and it should look really good when that work is finished. The blinds did a good job blocking the summer sun, though the skylight could bother anyone who needs complete darkness to sleep.

The breakfast was a lovely start to the day, and our room was clean. The staff were really kind and helpful too. It's right in the center, so nights can get noisy. Probably best for a one-night stay, but I'd definitely recommend it.

We paid to relax and get decent service, but I wouldn't recommend staying here. There was loud music and noise until 2 a.m., so sleeping was impossible. The extra bed was made of several iron pieces and made so much noise that I ended up sleeping on the floor. There was no refrigerator or even basic bathroom supplies. I asked for shampoo the day before, but it never came. An employee said they were very busy. 🤐
