Grand Hotel Central

We loved our room and the staff were really nice. After reading the comments here, we were worried, but our experience with the room actually surprised us. The hotel is right in the center. We would have happily stayed a few more nights at both the hotel and in Rotterdam if we hadn’t had other plans.

The online photos were completely misleading. The place was old and poorly maintained, with peeling paint, worn walls and floors, a leaking toilet, and shower water that smelled awful. The room didn’t look anything like the pictures, and I was very disappointed. Money gone to waste. There were disturbing noises from other guests’ affairs through the thin walls, and the whole atmosphere was awful. Then, while I was already getting ready to check out, staff banged on my door and pressured me to leave. Being made to check out that way was humiliating. One of the worst four nights of my life, a deeply unpleasant and unprofessional stay. I can’t recommend it to anyone.

The room was spacious, though only one person could fit in the bathroom at a time. The night staff gave me the wrong price over the phone and raised the cost of the room.

The one thing going for it is being close to Rotterdam central station, shops, and restaurants. Otherwise, this was the most disgusting place I’ve ever had to stay. The beds were stained and really uncomfortable, and the room reeked of smoke. Genuinely terrible.
