The Usual Rotterdam

Breakfast was the highlight, all vegetarian, with a nice range of warm dishes, mostly egg-based, plus coffee, juice, coconut yoghurt, oats, sweet treats, bread, and toppings. The first room's shower flooded easily. We mentioned it at reception and were quickly moved. The replacement was much better: the shower stayed clear, and the bed had four pillows instead of the two in the first room. The room was basic, but matched what the online description led me to expect.

The room felt a bit cramped, and the double bed was made up of two single mattresses, which wasn't the most comfortable. It'd be nice if double rooms had proper double mattresses. Still, I had a pleasant stay at The Usual Hotel in Rotterdam. The place has a stylish, modern feel, and the staff were welcoming and friendly. Everything was clean and well organized, and I liked the hotel's overall vibe. The location is great for seeing the city, and I'd recommend it for the service, design, and location.

The ground floor common area has a great vibe, and the location is stunning with public transport close by. The staff were really friendly, and we had an okay stay overall. Dust had built up in the corners because there hadn't been a deep clean, but they dealt with it after we reported it. We chose an executive studio so we could make basic meals and drinks, but the kitchenette didn't have enough cutlery or vessels, and there was no coffee, tea, salt, or sugar. The microwave wasn't working when we arrived; we complained several times, but it wasn't fixed during our five-day stay. They market The Usual as sustainable, yet the windows don't open. Fresh air intake is one of the basics of sustainable architecture. The location is great, and the staff are friendly, but better attention to small details and service would make a real difference.

We were impressed by how fully the self sustainability idea runs through the hotel. It goes well beyond the usual hotel sustainability gimmick, and made the price feel even more worthwhile. The lobby is a great place for morning coffee, evening drinks, or just hanging out. The decor is tasteful, and we loved the branded 'U' details throughout, especially the 'U' active state when moving between TV options. Staff were super friendly at every interaction. On our last day, the dedicated locker area made it easy to leave our luggage while we looked around after checkout. We were thoroughly impressed and will definitely come back on our next Rotterdam trip.
