The hosts made us feel so welcome and went above and beyond, taking time to share a huge amount of information. I learned more about Norway, its people, and traditions from them than from anyone I’d met before. Breakfast included homemade bread, local honey from the community on the island, and fresh squeezed juice. You can also meet the backyard flock that poops your breakfast, along with plenty of other farm animals. If you’re lucky, you might spot an eagle, fox, or moose. The antique decor is remarkable, with skeleton locks and keys for the rooms and a detached bathroom. The whole place is incredibly cozy, and I slept so well. You can dine with fine china from most of a century ago. The setting feels majestic and like stepping back in time, but expect sparse or nonexistent internet if you come here to get away from it. It’s almost 10km from the Saltstraumen maelstrom, mostly along rough roads. Unless you’re up for navigating buses and the extra walking, you’ll need to rent a car in town or at the airport when you arrive. The buses don’t come all the way here. I wouldn’t recommend anything but a car if you have more luggage than a hiking backpack. Apple Maps or google (Skagen 171 Saltstraumen) will direct you here either way. It’s about a 40-50 minute drive from the airport.

With all the hotels in Bodø fully booked, I ended up here by way of a scenic gravel road. I had to wait while a family of moose took their time crossing. It turned into a blessing in disguise. The old building and interior feel like a passage back in time, and that alone makes it worth a visit. The bedrooms are for sleeping, while the opulent living rooms are where you can enjoy the quiet. Breakfast was first class, served beneath a crystal chandelier, with roses and candles on the table. The hosts were friendly and attentive, and made me feel at home. I’d definitely return.

The hosts are so friendly and make sure you have a wonderful stay. This cozy, charming guesthouse sits among beautiful nature. You can also dine at Skagen Gaard, which I heartily recommend.

The house’s atmosphere made the evening, night, and morning unforgettable. The host welcomed us in a way that felt like being with a friend, and we went down to the shore, where we saw sea eagles and porpoises. Learning about the house’s history and the host’s family added so much. The accommodation and food were wonderful too. Highly recommended to everyone!

A cozy, lovely place with a lot of history going back to the end of the 16th century. Dinner was incredibly fresh fish, caught from Saltströmmen just a few hundred meters away. It’s hard to find fresher. I can highly recommend this place.
