Sæbø Camping

There was lots of space, a small playground for the kids, and very nice people at reception. You can rent a kayak or small boat right there. The shower costs 10NOK for four minutes, which is OK.

We found a place for our tent right by the water, looking out over Eidfjordvatnet. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Since we arrived late in the evening and couldn't check in, we contacted them and were told to pick a nice spot, then come back to pay the next day. We thought that was really cool. The place was clean and nice, and the views were amazing. But the owner wasn't welcoming and came across as rude. I felt like we were a nuisance rather than valued customers. He needs serious customer service training. Some showers didn't work either, and we lost our coins for nothing.

We camped in a tent with our car, so I can't say what the facilities are like for the oversized house-on-wheels crowd. There are tents, cabins, and room for massively oversized human transporters, aka roadblocks, aka campervans. The cabins looked okay. It wasn't too crowded, and there's free WiFi and somewhere to put your trash. The showers and kitchen were just okay, and only cleanish. This is fine as a stop on the way, but not much of a destination. Swimming isn't good since there's no decent way to get into the water, even though it looks nice. The river is too fast to get in. The grass stays very damp even at summer's end, and there's a persistent problem with garbage bees (wespen). I'd suggest covering the composter. It's wide open, with “wasps/bees” in the trash and all through camp. Lots of long leg spiders, too. The local pizza place is nice. The “deserted” village isn't deserted, so don't bother them. We've seen world-class camping, and this isn't anywhere close. I regret using one of my vacation days here. Come late, sleep, and move on in the morning.
