It’s really out in the middle of nowhere, with nothing close by. Flam is about 45 minutes away, though there are some great, challenging hikes around.

We stayed here in August 2019 while travelling from Balestrand to Oslo, and would happily come back. The hostel was easy to find and very clean throughout, including our bedroom and the shared bathroom. The manager was friendly and efficient. It was great having a kitchen to use, and a lovely breakfast was included in the room rate. Borgund stave church, rated among Norway’s top three stave churches, is only a short drive away.

The owner and her family run a very professional place, with rooms cleaned daily and a generous breakfast each morning. I enjoyed my stay. It’s quite isolated, though. That’s fine if you have a car or are just passing through, since the scenery is beautiful. If you’re planning to get around on foot, keep in mind that places are far away and buses don’t come often.

Our last hostel stay was years ago, so we didn’t expect much, but this place was clean and the breakfast spread was really good. We’d come back in a heartbeat. Highly recommend it!

Simple, small, clean rooms and good value: a four-bed room costs 750 kr, or 275 kr for one person. The price includes a good Norwegian breakfast. There’s also a fully equipped kitchen, a washing machine, and good Wi-Fi.
