Our reservation for today had been confirmed, but when we arrived at 20.00, the doors were locked. The automatic message said reception was open until 23.00. Someone finally called back, only to say they were closed and wouldn’t check us in!!! Disgusting. Avoid this hotel!

Delicious food at the restaurant, and the hotel itself has a pleasant atmosphere. The rooms are spacious and clean, with a rustic style.

Our room in the main lodge was great, even in such an old building, and the bathroom had been newly remodeled. There was plenty to choose from at breakfast, and it was very good. My only complaint is that the curtains didn’t block the light. With sunset at 11 and sunrise at 3:30, there isn’t much darkness.

For an authentic Norway experience, this family-run hotel is a great choice. It’s where lodging in this area first got started, and both the historic buildings and the restaurant have a long history. You can also rent cabins, designed and furnished by a local carpenter. The staff are wonderful, including lots of local university students working during their summer break. I like a real experience instead of a standard hotel that could be anywhere. And the WiFi works well too!

The dinners were the best I’ve ever had, and the hotel’s location is great. I actually liked the dated rooms because they added to the rustic mountain lodge feel. From my room, I could see the stave church and the fjords, which was a treat. Some rooms and bathrooms might be hard to access for people with limited mobility.
