The setting was beautiful and historic, and we had a lovely afternoon tea. The scones were fantastic, with a great choice of teas. Our server was kind and respectful, though we didn’t get the usual introduction to the day’s menu that I’ve had at other afternoon tea places. We’d initially booked for three. About 20 minutes after making the booking, we asked if a fourth person could join us, but were told that wasn’t possible, so we assumed the place was full. When we arrived, though, we were seated at a table for four, with an empty chair. It was a little sad that our friend couldn’t come when there was space. Service was slightly slow too, which is why I’ve taken off a star. Still, it’s a cozy place for an afternoon, and I’d recommend it. 😊

There are lovely hikes nearby, including one that leads to an old water mill a kilometer or two away. This traditional hotel, dating from the 1850s, sits on a golf course among the forests outside Oslo, about a 20-25 minute drive from the city center. There aren’t any shops or restaurants in the immediate area, though there seems to be a touristy cafe up the road by the attraction.

The small details in the room need some repairs, and breakfast could have a little more to it. Still, it’s a wonderful place that reminds me of hotels in Relais and Chateaux. Really great.

The guest hotel is seamlessly attached to an active golf course, which is also popular and open to non-members. The manor house itself is beautiful, with traditional architecture and a strong sense of history. Vintage artifacts from the past are displayed throughout the living rooms and corridors.
