Kampen Hotel

For the money, this is one of the best hotels in Oslo, hands down.

I rarely post a negative review, but my stay at Kampen Hotell was one of the most disturbing hotel experiences I've had. My cousin and I, two women travelling together, were in room 3005 from 22-24 May. At around 4:00 a.m. on the night of 23-24 May, an unknown man who seemed heavily intoxicated came into our room while we were asleep. He had blood on his face and clothes, and we had to get him out ourselves. It was terrifying and could have ended much more seriously. Our room phone didn't work, so we called reception on my mobile. We tried several times before anyone helped. The next morning, a staff member said the man had apparently been involved in an incident elsewhere in the hotel. When we explained he had entered our room, they didn't initially seem to grasp how serious that was. The same staff member later checked our door and confirmed the lock wasn't working properly. After I made a formal complaint, the hotel wrote back, acknowledged the seriousness, apologised, and said it had opened an internal investigation. A few weeks ago, they also said management would propose a resolution. I appreciated hearing that the incident was still being investigated. But despite replying publicly to this review, they haven't answered my follow-up emails about the complaint or provided a resolution or compensation. I've asked for a full refund of my stay. An unknown intoxicated person getting into our room because of a faulty lock, along with the broken phone and the delayed staff response, makes that request reasonable and justified. I still want to resolve this directly and amicably, but that means responding through the official complaint process, not only on review platforms. Please update me on the investigation and the proposed resolution, including the refund request. I hope management addresses this properly so no other guest goes through the same thing. A hotel has to provide a safe, secure room, and that didn't happen for us.

We especially appreciated the staff, who were so kind and welcoming to us and our two young children. Our room also had a huge balcony. Breakfast was surprisingly good, and the whole family enjoyed it every morning. The price for the quality is hard to beat. Kampen Hotel is just outside the city center, but the metro links are excellent and made it easy to get anywhere in Oslo. We had a great stay and would happily consider returning on our next Oslo visit.
