Finse is reachable only by train, and this is its only hotel, with holiday cabins making up the rest of the place. We loved our stay and wished we’d had another night. The bed was very comfortable, and the glacier and lake view from our attic room was lovely, though a fixed beam was easy to bump your head on and the non-retractable vertical blinds got in the way of the view. We did an incredible hike up to the glacier. The hotel served good dinner and breakfast, with a vegetarian option for me, and packed lunches of a sandwich and fruit to take hiking. There’s also an interesting photo album about the filming of Star Wars Empire Strikes Back here. One of our favorite stops on our three-week Norway trip, and we’re planning to come back.

We were almost the only guests since our visit was in October. A very friendly receptionist, Daniel, picked us up at the train station. We had a great dinner and enjoyed looking out over the lake.

We had a lovely quick dinner while waiting for our train, and used the lounge to pass the time and dry our things, including the dog. It’s great that there’s a drying room. We’ll definitely come back!

The hotel was a perfect place to rest between Oslo and Bergen, with gorgeous scenery and great hiking nearby. We splurged on a top-floor room for the beautiful glacier views. It’s a quaint, relaxing place, well maintained, with friendly staff and very good food. A lovely spot for long meditations too.

In winter, this train-only destination feels magical, with the frozen lake and glacier views. I’d highly recommend stopping here on the journey between Oslo and Bergen.
