Hardanger Guesthouse

Our room by the stream was simple, but the bubbling water and relaxed feel of the place made it memorable. We also had a vegetarian pizza and reindeer stew with potatoes for dinner. The food itself wasn’t what we’ll remember, though we enjoyed it. This is a basic guesthouse, with simple rooms and services, and there wasn’t even a bed in the room. Still, it’s a friendly, easygoing place to stop, and I’d go back in a heartbeat.

We found it to be good value, with a friendly, welcoming staff and a decent breakfast. It’s a typical Norwegian camping place, with motel-style rooms, cabins, and a campground, right at the end of Hardanger Fjord. You can still get there by public transport. It’s also a handy starting point for hikes to Kvasshovden and Kristanuten, or a trip to Eidfjord and farther on to Vøringsfossen.

After the place I’d booked cancelled my reservation, I was moved here. It’s pleasant and simple, with fairly basic facilities and a hostel-like feel, though the rooms are private. The reception staff were nice, helpful, and accommodating, and breakfast was decent.

Ulvik is a small, beautiful village, and we stayed at Hardanger Guesthouse for one night during our trip to Norway. We were lucky to get a room upgrade, with a creek just behind the back terrace. The service was excellent and breakfast was good. Don’t miss a swim in the sea near the camping area next to Hardanger Guesthouse. Highly recommended.
