Myrkdalen Fjellandsby

The rooms were very clean, and the location is excellent for anyone who loves skiing. There were a lot of people, though, and the elevators felt small, so we had to wait quite a while.

For the price, this hotel falls a long way short. I've had better value, service, and facilities at luxury hotels in Germany and Austria. Here, prices are hard to justify, especially 164 NOK for an average pint of beer. Norway is expensive, but this felt like another level. The rooms were clean but tiny, with barely enough room to open a couple of suitcases on the luggage racks. There was no phone for calling reception, no tissues or glasses, no fridge, and apparently no daily room service. The hotel was very busy, and reception staff often seemed overwhelmed or weren't there. When available they were helpful, and the staff in reception and the restaurant were generous, but getting help usually meant a long wait. For a ski hotel, the lack of facilities was surprising. There wasn't a proper room for drying wet ski boots and other gear, so we had to use a conference room, which was inconvenient. The pizza was amazing, though restaurant choices were very limited. The à la carte food was also repeatedly served lukewarm.

This is a friendly resort in Myrkdalen, near Voss, with wide, open slopes and a November opening. On a weekday it wasn't busy, so we got some good runs in. The staff were helpful and adjusted our lift pass when we needed to change the dates.

I've been here twice and haven't regretted either trip. It's quiet and tucked away, and this has been the best ski holiday I've ever had.
