Voss Vandrarheim Hostel

Friendly, efficient staff and a handy location made this a good hostel stay. The rooms are basic, as you'd expect, and the food felt like poor value. The hostel itself was decent value for Norway.

The private beach is just outside, with a beautiful mountain view, especially if you use the sauna and its opening times and cost suit you. The room views were incredible, and the location was great. I enjoyed the included towels and bed linen, plus a breakfast with lots of options, including gluten-free food, and tea, coffee and herbal drinks. There was lots of parking, though I visited before the official season began. One small suggestion: they could stock sunscreen. It was 26 degrees and I hadn't brought any 😂, although several supermarkets are about a 10-minute walk away. I was alone in my 5-bed dorm, so having only one visible socket and no bed lamps wasn't a problem for me. At a busier time, though, that could be frustrating.

The location, breakfast and staff were all great. Most of the electrical outlets didn't work, but the one that did was enough for us.

The kitchen could use better ventilation. When we tried making an omelette, the fire alarm kept going off. Otherwise, it was a clean, kid-friendly place with hiking nearby, and I'd recommend it. We came in winter and the heating worked well. It's easy to find and looks just like the website says. The store owner handles the place, and the shop stays open every day, so we could get groceries whenever we needed them.
