Gorkha Hamlet Resort

The location is lovely and the resort looks good from outside, but the owner's lack of respect and uncaring attitude ruined the stay for us. We were the only guests there, yet they couldn't make the experience pleasant. Our travel agent had booked a terrible room, and after I made a fuss they moved us to one that looked better. The bathroom had a tub taking up more than half the space, but it didn't work and dirty water came out of it. There was a dirty bucket beside the toilet, a pair of old dirty slippers, and no toiletries. The flush didn't work either. When I complained, owner Tamang shouted at me and told me I could check out if I wanted. It was 10 pm and I was with my family. The food wasn't worth trying. There are many good options outside. The paratha we ordered was stale, and the sandwich the next day was far too bland. This place could have done well with its location and design, but hospitality matters in this business. The owners depend on guests, and people look at reviews these days. If they don't take that seriously, they could soon have to close.

I'm a regular customer here because the service is very good, the food is tasty, and the staff are friendly. Hot water is available 24 hours. A very good result in Sauraha.

I liked the cheerful atmosphere and all the greenery around the hotel. Our delayed check-in was a different story: we'd told the staff we'd be late, but when we arrived around 12:40 am the gates were shut. We banged on them for about half an hour before a sleepy staff member let us in. The rooms were clean, as I found everywhere else I traveled in Nepal, even in places without amenities. Apart from that appalling welcome and the expensive food, I had no other issues.

The service is good, and the resort is in a decent spot near town. The rooms, though, are well below standard.
