Aloft Kathmandu Thamel

After a terrible experience down the street, I was so relieved to move here. The facilities were clean, the rooms were soundproof, the food was good, and the location made it easy to enjoy everything Thamel has to offer. Best of all, they didn't double-book my room, let someone come in while I was asleep, and then blame me for not locking the chain.

The complimentary facilities made this stay special, especially the temperature-controlled pool, sauna, and jacuzzi. Sangeeta in the sauna and jacuzzi area was particularly helpful and warm, and the rest of the staff were attentive and made my stay pleasant. My room was spotlessly clean and comfortable, a great base for exploring Kathmandu. This was my first Marriott stay, and Aloft Kathmandu Thamel set a very high bar. Thanks to the whole Aloft team for making me comfortable. Great facilities, cleanliness, and service, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kathmandu.

Rajani, Rebecca, and Medina made the dining room feel especially welcoming. They brought my tea each morning, were always polite, and chatted and joked with me, which meant a lot as a solo traveller. They're a real credit to Aloft, and I hope management recognizes their hard work. Everyone else was friendly too, from the lobby guards and concierge to the spa and pool staff. Dhanyabad! I spent four days at Aloft Thamel, Kathmandu, before and after a two-week Himalayan trek. In the middle of busy Thamel, it felt calm after sightseeing. Housekeeping kept my room beautifully tidy and clean, with bottled water and toiletries as nice extras. The rooms were clean and well appointed. Breakfast had a huge range of choices. At dinner, the buffets were excellent and the à la carte meals were beautifully cooked and presented. The kitchen staff should be proud. I highly recommend the hotel and hope to return.

The breakfast buffet was excellent, with a huge selection and three fresh juice options, and the welcome snacks were a nice touch. Lounge food was okay, and the cocktails were great. The room felt new and modern, but noise from traffic and planes came through the tall windows. Things went badly at checkout. A booking issue meant I had to spend my third night at the Marriott Fairfield next door. One kind staff member offered to carry some of my many bags and walk over with me, but his supervisor yelled at him in Nepali in front of people, so he had to take back the offer. He could only point me in the right direction. I ended up making two difficult trips with my luggage by myself. It wasn't a long distance, but the lack of help after that was very disappointing. For two people who put a top-notch breakfast first, this hotel may be worth the price. Otherwise, the Marriott next door is about USD 40 or more less per night and offers much better service.
