Dondrub Guest House

The room you get can vary a lot for the same price, from very small to much bigger. Winter was really cold, especially since you step out of the room into a balcony-like hall rather than an indoor corridor, with buildings all around. The pictures in my room were strange too. I didn’t want to look at them every day. For a monastery guesthouse, a nice image of the Buddha or Tara would be better than a big photo of a Nepali guy or a wall of a house.

The place is close to Boudhanath Stupa, and the people are very friendly. Their tea, soap, mala, and other handmade items are inexpensive and unusual. I’d much rather buy them here than get souvenirs at the tourist spots.

Even with busy streets around, the place has a peaceful feel. My room was clean and cozy, with a view of the stupa from the window and a garden outside. The staff and everyone else were kind and nice.

There are plenty of places around the complex to sit, work quietly, or just enjoy the calm. It also has a lovely garden and a nunnery attached, and the Stupa is only a 6m walk away. There’s a new clinic near the entrance if you need any checks, plus lots of local restaurants close by. The rooms are spacious, with modern bathrooms and hot water 24h, and the buffet breakfast is delicious. It’s a beautiful, clean, comfortable and safe place in Kathmandu. The price is modest, and the money supports the nunnery 🙏🙏🙏
