The best part was the staff, who were courteous and helpful, and the daily cleaning kept the old hotel tidy. For the price, the basic breakfast was okay. The room was stiff-bed uncomfortable, and the toilet looked very old and not especially clean. There was no safe, and no sign to ask housekeeping to skip the room, so cleaners came every day whether I wanted that or not. The shower temperature kept shifting from cold to warm to scalding on its own, which made showering a bit of a nightmare. The bigger problem was the heat. The AC didn't cool at all, even when switched on. My street-facing room got afternoon sun and felt suffocatingly warm, even in winter. Opening the windows brought in noise and pollution. When I raised it, staff sent maintenance to switch off the useless AC, and eventually gave me a fan.

The hotel staff pointed us accurately toward places to visit, and we had a good time on our three-day trip to Nepal. They were good to us, and the rooms were spacious and clean. The buffet breakfast was awesome. We were also pleasantly surprised to find a shopping mall in such a small place as Nepal. The Grand hotel worked well for a short stay.

I'd especially like to come back for the people. I spent most of last week at the Grand while the protests were at their peak, which was stressful, but the whole staff were outstanding, kind, and genuinely helpful in the middle of the crisis. Even with all that going on, the hotel kept running excellently. Truly Grand, and a place for any time.

My stay was 6-11 December 2025, and the end of it was really frustrating. I paid the waiter cash at my door for room dining, signed the bill, and left a tip. At checkout, they said it was unpaid, so I had to pay again with my flight time coming up. The receptionists and staff seemed disoriented and kept me waiting. I suggested checking the corridor camera or calling the person who delivered the food, but they couldn't manage either. It was an unacceptable and unprofessional way to handle things, and it ruined the end of my stay.
