Hotel Vaishali

The rooms were comfortable, even though the property looks very old. Thamel's location makes it especially handy for trekkers. I stayed one night before my EBC trek, courtesy of TTH. Breakfast was okay. For a better vibe, I preferred FLOCK hostel.

I've never felt this unsafe in a hotel. I've stayed in one-star guesthouses and hostels that felt safer than this. At 8am, while I was in bed, someone tried a key card on my door several times and then tried to push it open. As a female traveler, I always double lock the door. After about five minutes, I looked through the peephole and saw a man with a housekeeping lady. I opened the door and asked what was going on. The man laughed nervously and said it was a mistake. At reception, the woman said there had been a misunderstanding and they thought the room had checked out, so they wanted to clean it. I can understand a mistake happening, but when the door is locked from inside, housekeeping should check with a supervisor instead of trying to force it open with another man at 8am. If I hadn't double locked it, things could have gone worse. Safety is my main priority, and this hotel didn't seem to take it seriously. The hotel is old too, from the lift to the bathroom and towels. For the same money, you could do yourself a favor and stay somewhere better and safer.

The staff are the reason my 14-night stay was so memorable. At breakfast each morning, the kitchen team greeted me with smiles and took care of what I needed. I like my tea prepared a certain way, and they made it for me every day. The buffet had a good variety of options. Management were friendly and attentive too. When I got a little sick, as many travelers to this country do, they helped me find a remedy. My flight home was later in the evening, and they arranged a very late checkout when I asked. I'd strongly recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Nepal.

This place is totally old and has no maintenance, yet the price is overrated. The staff are annoying.
