Royal Penguin Boutique Hotel & Spa

We booked Hotel Royal penguin at Khatmandu, and it was a terrible experience. We were all senior citizens, yet the lift wasn't working and they put us on the 3rd floor. There were only 6/7 staff in the hotel. The reception closed after 10 and the hotel closed at 1030. Restaurant staff didn't come until after 7 am, beer was out of stock, and neither the TV remote nor the phone worked. How can this be called a 4 star hotel? It's a 0 star hotel. Any Indian, please check the reviews before going to Hotel Royal penguin. *--5 point because as* per give instructions in website who can give 4 star hotel ????? Management not chk Hotel

The hotel is in central Thamel, right by the road, so traffic and crowd noise carry into the area. It seems to have once been a premium place, but the maintenance has slipped. The chair needs fixing, overhead lights and bathtub drainage weren't working properly, and handwash and shower gel should have been provided.

I was in Nepal when the pandemic started, and while my friend and I were frantically trying to get back to Canada, we needed somewhere to stay in Kathmandu. We spent two weeks at this hotel, and I truly don't know what we would have done without them. The staff made us feel safe and cared for during such a stressful time. The food was awesome too! I should've written this review 4 years ago!

The location is about the only thing I liked, and the staff were polite. Management, though, seemed absent. The lift had clearly been left to deteriorate without repairs. If you’re on the third floor or higher, expect a lot of stairs after a tiring day. There were basic problems in the room too. Some wall sockets, including the bathroom one, didn’t work, so I had to bring the hair dryer into the room. The electricity issue seemed to come from a short circuit inside the room, not from outside, and it had burned out the TV. When I reported that the TV wasn’t working, they explained what had happened. This could damage your electronics, so be very careful. The room also didn’t seem properly cleaned. I found cobwebs above the desk and stains on the floor. Don’t be tempted by the good offers. This place isn’t worth it and shows serious signs of poor management.
