Zen Bed and Breakfast Kathmandu

The atmosphere made this feel like home, even though it isn’t a 4 or 5-star hotel. The general manager does a great job, and all respect to him. I was warmly welcomed when I arrived, and the staff were extremely friendly, offering complimentary tea or coffee. I had two great nights here. It’s in the posh area of thamel, known for nightlife, with good restaurants and clubs like reef and full moon cafe within 500m. The washroom was neat and clean. You can book a private room or a dorm at a very affordable rate. For an 8-bed shared dorm, it’s about 3 $, or you can pay in your own currency. One of my favorite hotels during my time in Kathmandu.

The place was difficult to find, and check-in took a long time. Our room wasn’t clean, and there was no hot water despite our specifically asking for a bath tub. They offered a different room at an adjacent Hotel, but its gas heater wasn’t working properly either. We got our money back without any trouble.

It’s easy to find, right in the middle of Thamel and in a perfect location. The whole hotel, including the rooms and beds, is very clean, and there are hot showers and a nice rooftop with WiFi where you can relax. I’ve stayed here on every Kathmandu visit for the past three years. The staff are what make it special: they’re so welcoming and nice, and offer tea and coffee for free.

The room was crawling with COCKROACHES. Staff offered to move me, but the replacement was even worse, with no mosquito nets on the windows. They offered a free taxi instead of a refund. Be careful with their services too, such as the overpriced laundry. The hostel sits down a dark, dirty little street behind the main buildings. There are rats and lots of trash around, and the neighborhood smells awful. I wouldn’t recommend it. There are other budget places in Kathmandu with a much better standard.
