Pokhara Youth Hostel

I stayed here three different times between trips from Pokhara. It’s a very affordable place, especially with breakfast and morning tea included. The private room was enough for me, with a comfortable bed and working hot water. The owner is very friendly and helpful, and the location is very good. Weekends can get a bit noisy from live bands playing by the lake, but earplugs did the trick. If you’re after a budget stay, I recommend it. For the best price, contact the owner directly instead of booking through Booking.com or another site.

The staff are what made my nearly three weeks here so good. It felt welcoming, homely, and authentic, and the social space often had music and a really chilled vibe. As a solo traveler resting from an injury, I was lucky to find this place and made some solid friendships. My private room had a great lake view, a super comfortable bed, and plenty of air, with a ceiling fan, private bathroom, and warm shower. The room and bathroom were cleaned, fresh towels were provided, and the linen was changed regularly. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Pokhara. It’s the best value and most comfortable place for me.

I wouldn’t recommend this place. I found the whole experience unfriendly: the rooms were dirty, the facilities didn’t work, and there were only 2 washrooms for like 50 people. They had no soap or tissue, and were very dirty, as you’d expect with so many people using them. I also noticed staff were friendlier to foreigners but dismissive toward Bangladeshi people. At night the owner was drunk, wouldn’t let us park my bike inside, and was rude about it.

At this price, fancy room service probably isn’t what you’re after. What stood out was how incredibly nice and helpful the staff were. They knew about the treks you might want to do and always had good recommendations for things to do in Pokhara. Thanks Chiran ♥️
