Goodview Hotel

Having a kitchenette was a real plus, and the facilities were great. Our room at Goodview Hotel was spacious and comfortable, so it was easy to relax, though the bathroom could use a refresh. It’s about a five-minute walk from Aotea Square, close enough to get around easily but not right in the middle of the noise. We also appreciated the paid parking. It was on the steep side price-wise, but safe and gated, with plenty of room while we were there, which gave us peace of mind.

The manager was very kind and let me stay in the room past checkout until 5pm without charging me, because I’d injured my stomach and needed to rest before going to the airport. I’m very thankful for the help. The room was spacious and clean, and the staff were kind and helpful.

After the staff cleaned the room a second time, I took the photos I’ve posted. They changed the stained bedding and removed the hair from the shower head, but many of the cleanliness problems I’d pointed out were still there, so I decided not to stay. The staff were kind, understanding and apologetic, though management said they’d never had complaints like mine before, despite a number of reviews describing similar issues. I’d booked fairly last-minute, three days out, knowing availability might be limited. The photos made the place look dated but clean and well maintained. Instead, the lobby had a couch, dirty windows and no desk or staff in sight, and I wondered if I was at the right place. When a staff member came out of the office, he let me check in straight away, though we had trouble finding my booking. On the way to the room I noticed the smell and condition of the stairs and lift. The elevator smelled of urine, and there was debris throughout the halls and stairways. The room was cold and damp, smelling of mildew and smoke masked by cleaning products. Its window was open on a rainy day, and I immediately saw enough cleanliness issues to photograph them. The fridge smelled awful and showed signs of mould inside. I showed the photos to staff and raised my concerns. Some of the issues may sound small, but visible surface dirt made me worry about deeper cleanliness problems, and I didn’t feel comfortable.

They cleaned my room every day, took the rubbish and replaced the towels. The staff here are awesome, and the location is an added bonus. I’m very happy with my room and the price was absolutely good value for money. My friend stayed down the road at VR hotel and paid double without getting anywhere near what I had. I totally recommend this place.
