Best Western Plus - Fino Hotel & Suites

That central Christchurch location, opposite the town hall and near lots of attractions, was a real highlight. The building also has a lovely open atrium with a fountain that gives it a calm feel. Our room was clean, comfortable and big enough for two. We stayed three nights, and the kitchen was the main letdown: there was a microwave but only a small glass bowl with no lid, plus two little saucepans for the stovetop and no frypan. There weren’t proper microwave utensils either. Maybe that’s to avoid setting off the fire alarm, but cooking appliances need useful tools. We also only had two champagne flutes, no regular wine glasses, so we had to use a tumbler for wine and other drinks. We mentioned both issues at checkout, and neither would stop us coming back. Just know that parking in their carpark is NZD$15 per day, which we hadn’t realized.

The rooms are laid out well, and I liked having a washer and dryer. Staff were cheerful and really helpful, and it’s so close to the city centre. Parking is good too, though getting a big car in takes some skill. I’d have liked more dishwashing liquid than the little packets provided, but I could’ve asked for extra.

We loved our stay and would happily come back when we visit Christchurch. The atrium is beautiful, full of real plants, and room service is available from the restaurant next door. The bathroom is a little dated, though that’s what I expected for a hotel of this age.

We left the car in the reasonably priced carpark and walked everywhere, since the hotel is so handy to central Christchurch. The restaurant food was fine, but not being allowed to take the bottle back to our room after the meal wasn’t ideal. Staff were friendly and helpful. We’ll come again.
