The decor and surroundings felt warm and welcoming, and brought back nostalgic memories of outings at Tauheranikau, Ellerslie, and Alexandra racecourses. The team handled my very last-minute booking well, and the service was friendly. They followed up about my Oakley sunglasses after I left them behind, and sorted out a double-booking glitch from an online issue without any hassle. I’d especially recommend the one room with 2x king beds. Thanks again, team.

That hotel setup is unusual for the town because you can’t drive right up to your room. The shared area was dark when I arrived, probably to save money, and it made for a gloomy welcome. The room’s furnishings were getting old, and the towels were thin, though the bathroom was exceptional. It was nice and quiet, but something felt short of what it should be. Maybe I expected more because of the rating and price compared with other places in town. Staying alone can feel lonelier than usual, and this place didn’t help. The owners seemed well intentioned, so you may find it fine.

The new owners were welcoming and accommodating, and our room was peaceful and quiet, set back from the main road. Gateway Motor Inn is on the outskirts of Masterton, which didn’t bother us. Our stay exceeded my expectations, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. We’ll stay again.

Really enjoyed staying here. The room felt luxurious, from the carpet and beds to the seating, and the bathroom was modern and clean.

They were happy to let us check in 35 minutes early without an extra charge, which I really appreciated. The hospitality was wonderful, the location great, and the facilities amazing. All the room doors were open while I was being shown to mine, so I could have a look into the other rooms too. It felt like a safe, lovely place for people to enjoy. Thanks for a great stay, I’m looking forward to coming back.
