Heartland Hotel Fox Glacier

The little hamlet is cute and the location is very pretty, but the stay was disappointing. Our beds were really uncomfortable, and the room was hot with no air conditioner or even a fan. We couldn’t keep the windows open because mosquitoes came in. We’d told them ahead of time that we needed dairy-free vegetarian food. The vegetarian option came with cheese sauce, and when we explained the issue, we were offered plain vegetables without dressing. That was a real letdown.

Quite a lovely spot, but come on, just give me a microwave. I get that there’s a bar and restaurant downstairs, but a little way to heat food would make a huge difference for travelling workers. At $177 huk, steering people toward the on-site restaurant just doesn’t work for us.

Our highway was closed, so I needed a room at around midnight on short notice. They sorted it out without any hassle, and I got a nice little room with a decent bathroom. Breakfast was offered too. Would recommend.

The room was warm and comfortable, with its own bathroom, and we enjoyed the balcony and the view. We stayed three nights over Easter at a reasonable price. Staff were accommodating and rearranged the bookings so our friends could be in the room next to ours. I left a phone charger behind, and they couriered it to us within two days at no extra cost. We were impressed and would definitely stay again.
