Lottin Point Motel

That view from the room was something else, and the drive in gave us postcard-worthy scenery too. My partner and I stayed two nights at the cozy Lottin Point Motel. Rodger was kind and flexible, and made us a delicious four-course dinner with dessert. The sweet potatoes were especially good. We also fell for the resident dog and cat and wished we could take them home. Thank you for a great stay!

Bring your own food if you need to, or ask Roger to cook something, which he was very happy to do. The rooms were clean and tidy, had everything we needed, and the beds were really comfortable. Hicks Bay is an amazing remote spot, with the countryside and extraordinary views we’d hoped for, and then some. Thanks for a great stay.

Roger emailed ahead to let me know there weren’t many places to eat nearby, which I appreciated. He and Carol, his manager, were great hosts. From my immaculate second-floor room I had a magnificent view of the sea, and everything I needed was there. A little piece of paradise in New Zealand, and a great stop while travelling between Gisborne and Ōpōtiki!

After the long drive from Auckland, we got in at 7pm for the night and had a fantastic dinner. We ordered one fish and chips to share, which was smart because a full portion would’ve been huge. Breakfast was generous too: fresh fruit, a big bowl of granola, yogurt, blueberry muffins, toast, and jam, marmalade and Marmite. Carole and Carol(ine) kept us very well fed, and the hospitality came with a good sense of humour.
