That old elevator gives the place a bit of character, even though the hotel is quite dated. I was comfortable in the double deluxe room on my own. For the price, it’s a good option, and the city centre location means restaurants and bars are only a short walk away.

I got a cheap last-minute deal, and the location was good. The place was clean enough and decent for the price, though the hotel feels worn and needs refurbishment. The biggest problem was how easily sound came through the thin walls. I could hear music and drunk arguments from nearby guests. My shower didn’t work, and the steps up to the bath felt like a serious trip hazard. I’d think twice about staying here alone as a woman, on a weekend, or with young children. Even with those issues, it’s a cheap, generally clean place to sleep.

I was there for three nights while my husband was in hospital. The room was spacious, the beds were comfortable, and the staff were very nice. I loved having a balcony. It was basic but a great price. I was surprised there wasn’t a microwave, though perhaps some of the other rooms have one.

The room was clean and spacious, including the bathroom, and the heat pump was already on when I arrived, so it was a comfortable temperature. I appreciated the kind woman at the front desk, the old world architecture, the comfy mattress, the good location, and the cheap rate. My Superior Queen, #110, cost $92 NZD for one night on a Thursday in October. I could easily hear footsteps because there’s no sound insulation, and the heat pump was noisy, though I was glad it was there. The bed was two singles pushed together, so I had to sleep on one side of the gap. From my experience, the superior rooms are better quality, so I’d book one of those. The cheaper deluxe category is cheaper for a reason. I’d stay again, but not on a Friday or Saturday, when street and nightclub noise would carry. Thanks for a nice stay.
