The cottage won us over as soon as we arrived. It's in a quiet rural area with sheep and birds, yet close to wineries, restaurants and beaches. The wood floors, vintage furnishings, fresh flowers and country breakfast foods, including homemade bread wrapped in a tea towel, make it feel like stepping back in time, while still having all the modern conveniences. Linda and Van are wonderful hosts. We plan to return just to stay here again.

Sit out on the deck and take in the sounds of summer in the country. This is a lovely, rustic, quiet and secluded cottage among trees and hills, with a river down in the valley. Havelock North and stunning Ocean Beach are only a 10 minute drive away.

Our kids had a lovely time running around the big garden, and we all walked down to the river. As we were leaving, Tom even offered to take them to his farm to collect eggs. The cottage is close to some good vineyards, too. Inside, the rooms were beautifully furnished, the fireplace was well stocked and warmed everything up fast, and I really enjoyed the baths. The hosts had left fresh baked bread, fresh eggs, and everything we needed to cook. Quite possibly the best rental cottage in NZ.

We only stayed one night, and I wish we’d had longer. The garden is lovely, and the cottage feels warm and cozy. The hosts are a friendly, helpful couple, and they’d stocked the fully equipped kitchen with eggs, milk, tea, bacon, bread, and other things, so we made our own breakfast. We’ll come back next time.

We had a fabulous breakfast, and the location was peaceful and quiet. The views of The Mata Peak were wonderful.
