Hokitika Fire Station Boutique Accommodation

Our apartment in the old firehouse was bright and super clean, with a very comfortable bed and top notch amenities. We loved seeing the firehouse renovated into five apartments. An amazing stay on our tour of New Zealand!

The restoration is great, and the location fantastic. We liked the room decor in Chief Millard. The bed was right by the door and the stairs to the upper floor, so footsteps and movement on the stairs at night and in the morning woke us. We could also hear conversations in the hall. I'd suggest adding a deadbolt to the room door for more security and moving the bed into the living area.

Of all the places we stayed during our two weeks across the South Island, this was by far the best. The attention to detail was excellent, and it felt like a passion project rather than an upmarket brand run by a conglomerate. If you're in Hokitika for the night, spend a little extra here. You won't regret it!

Just a short stroll from the supermarket, shops, and beach, and the place itself feels modern and really well equipped. It was spotless, too, with off-street parking and EV charging. Such a great find, we'd happily stay again.
