The new owner couldn't have been nicer, and I'd happily stay again if I get the chance. The rooms had a lovely boutique feel, with lots of care put into the decor. It is a cool old place that felt like stepping into the past in a good way. The rooms were nice, though plenty of the main areas are still waiting to be renovated.

I gave it five stars for the 1960s and 70s, when I stayed at the Grand Hotel and dined there many times. More recently, I thought it would be a treat to book the royal suit for a night. But I was unsettled by some very unsavoury people going in and out, and decided not to ask about my booking.

I felt like I was living in 1940. The older lady and the rest of the crew were so friendly, and I loved the experience. If you like vintage places and old landmarks, you should visit and stay here.

The complimentary breakfast was a nice bonus, and the rooms were large, clean, and comfortable. It's right on the main street, so there's some noise, though that's to be expected when you're in town. The place has an old world feel and could definitely use an upgrade. I'd recommend it.

I spoke with some of the long-term tenants and heard that food is quite often taken from the communal fridges. They also felt the manager seemed more focused on making money than on customer service. I nearly stayed, but I'm glad I didn't.
