Eldonwood Bed and Breakfast

Our room, The Loft, was cozy and really nice, and breakfast was delicious. Willie even offered to collect us from the i-Site and drop us off the next day, which we appreciated. I'd definitely recommend staying with them in Matamata.

Breakfast offered a great range of choices, including options for my dietary restrictions. The hosts also gave us useful advice about things to do in the area, then let us get on with our own plans. The beds were comfortable, the place was super clean, and the hosts were lovely. We'd happily stay again.

The hosts were great, and the filling breakfast was delicious. Our room was comfortable and very nice, making this a great place to stay while visiting Hobbiton. I left my Airpods behind, and they kept them safe in a little bag with my name and the date of my stay.

We left within 30 minutes and found a much more accommodating motel down the road. Before that, we were questioned for about 20 minutes, then asked for another ten minutes of questioning when we wanted to be shown our room. They wouldn't give us a key, even though we wanted to keep our belongings safe from other guests. The room was so small we could barely move, with nowhere for luggage except the bed. There was a huge sign telling us not to bring bedbugs and not to put luggage on the bed. We were also told we had to be up by 8:00 am for breakfast. The website didn't mention the rules against eating or drinking in the room or the shared bathroom, though they were posted at the property. The owners felt more like jailers than welcoming B&B hosts. They ignored us when we tried to raise our concerns and gave us no time of day. We sent a courteous email explaining what had bothered us, but they didn't reply and simply charged our credit card. We were there on the last days of our magical honeymoon, and this was a string of awful first impressions. We wouldn't recommend anyone subject themselves or their loved ones to this place. We felt scrutinized and insulted, and would sooner recommend staying with the Gestapo or the Spanish Inquisition.
