It's a handy base for visiting Hobbiton, and there's great Indian food in town. I really enjoyed the stay too. Our room was spacious, with a kitchen and dining area, couch, and AC. They even left us milk for tea :)

Matamata turned out to be a lovely town, not just a convenient stop for Hobbiton. We spent the morning browsing the shops before driving on to Auckland and really enjoyed it. My wife and I stayed here after our Hobbiton tour, and checking in beforehand was no problem. We needed room to repack on our last night in New Zealand, and the spacious room worked well. It was very conveniently located and good value for what we needed.

The owner, Ms Maria, was cheerful and always ready to answer questions. The rooms were roomy, and the beds were clean and comfortable, among the best I slept in during my time in NZ. It's just outside the city centre, with a petrol station very close by. Matamata is about 16 km from Hobbiton, so this worked really well as a place to stay for a visit. A real gem.

The rooms were really spacious, clean, and comfortable, and we were close to where we needed to be for Hobbiton. I came with my sister, partner, and BIL for an overnight stop, and honestly loved our stay. The woman running the place was incredibly kind and welcoming.

The room was warm and had the basic things we needed, and parking was good. It's quiet and clean, and the owners were great and very accommodating. I'll absolutely stay here again 🙂
