Off The Beaten Track Accommodation

The bike support deserves six stars on its own. Arran is a passionate, experienced rider and knows about bike setup, maintenance, repairs, trails, riding advice and transfers. He arranged our airport and trailhead transfers, white water rafting, and connected us with the right people for helicopter charters. In a week, we rode the Old Ghost Road, did a Paparoa/Pike 29 Track day ride, and spent time in the Wairoa Gorge. This was a special trip, and Arran played a big part in making it work. We’ll be back. We also stayed in two of his units. Both were big, bright, warm and very clean, and the kitchens had what we needed to self-cater. The gardens are a nice place to relax, and the location is right in town, within walking distance of what you need. Arran pointed out things to see in town and the area, including a perfect river swimming hole for a hot day. He clearly takes pride in the accommodation and service.

The rental chalets sit in beautiful gardens that Arran looks after, and we’d consider staying there next time we visit Murchison. There’s plenty to do outdoors in the area. We didn’t stay at the accommodation this time, but we did the Maruia Saddle cycle trip. It took just under four hours. My husband cycles a few times a week, while I’m not fit and mostly cycle to do the shopping, but I found it achievable. Arran’s mountain bikes handled the gravel trail and the six stream crossings on the descent well. I’m not comfortable mountain biking, so it was reassuring to know he’s an accomplished downhill MTB competitor and knows his bikes.

A really good place to stay in Murchison. The garden and outdoor kitchen are lovely, and the room was great. Aaron was so helpful when I had a serious problem with my bike, and had all the tools and gear I needed. I’d definitely recommend it.

We could’ve spent more time at this garden oasis. The rooms were well equipped, and it was handy having access to kitchen gear. The owner gave us useful information about the Old Ghost Road, where we were heading next. Grocery stores and cafes are within walking distance. I’d stay again without hesitation.
