Tasman Bay Backpackers

The staff were incredibly helpful, friendly, and flexible whenever I needed something. I've stayed in lots of hostels, but this was one of the rare places that made me wish I could stay longer just for the atmosphere. The little details made it charming and comfortable, like the guest recipe book in the common area and the chocolate pudding every evening. Everything was really clean without feeling sterile. I also liked the idea of a "social / offline hour", though it was a bit sad that most guests didn't seem interested in it. I was here for two nights and couldn't do much while I was there for various reasons. If I make it back to Nelson, I'll stay here again.

A quiet lounge, outdoor seating, hammocks, and the "famous hocolate pudding" made this a nice place to stay. It was busy but in a friendly way, and the staff were very welcoming. The room was good, and the location was convenient for the city centre and Founders Park. I'd stay again.

The warm rooms and quiet, comfortable beds made it easy to sleep well. I spent two weeks here while looking for a new flat, and didn't have one bad night. I've lived on the south island for 11 years and have stayed in probably half the hostels there, along with a few on the north Island. This was easily the best I've stayed in. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and did a great job creating a welcoming atmosphere. I didn't have any of the pudding myself, but I'd make sure to be downstairs when it was served because it brought everyone together for good chats and a wholesome bit of time.

There was loads of indoor and outdoor space for eating, relaxing, and chatting, and the kitchen was well equipped. The toilets and showers worked really well. The beds were clean and comfortable, though you could hear some noise through the bedroom walls and ceilings. It wasn't enough to bother anyone too much.
