Century House B & B flatlette

Samuel and Dawn were great hosts, with lots of breakfast choices in their well-equipped, completely separate guest suite. We appreciated all the extra touches. The beds were comfortable, it was very quiet and sparkling clean, and the shower was great. With a gorgeous garden, a rural outlook, and only a short drive to central Oamaru, this was a stunning place to stay. The hospitality was wonderfully warm in this lovely character house.

The cottage gardens were lovely to look at, and upstairs felt bright and fresh, with a good shower and decent beds. The downstairs room had what we needed, though it seemed a bit tired, and there was dried, spilled cereal on the couch. The stairs were steep for me after a knee replacement. We arrived five minutes before check-in, exhausted, and the male owner called out, “You’re early,” from the doorway. There was no hello or welcome. His wife showed us to our separate accommodation and said they’d just got back from church and hadn’t stocked the breakfast supplies in the fridge yet. When we returned from dinner, the fridge had been filled. We weren’t offered the hot tub, which would have been very welcome. A folder with places to eat and things to see would have helped.

Dawn and Sam are friendly, generous hosts who make it easy to come back. My family stays at The Century House whenever we’re in Oamaru. It’s warm and cozy, with a lovely feel of a classic New Zealand home from the 1900s. We highly recommend it.

We had a lovely room in a beautiful house while visiting Oamaru. The host was great, and breakfast was great too.
