The room was quiet, with no disturbance, and despite being near the main road I couldn't hear traffic. It was also really warm and cosy, so there's no need to switch on the electric blanket. I enjoyed having a balcony to sit outside with a cuppa. The location was spot on, with McDonald's within walking distance and K.F.C. across the road. Breakfast was fresh and just right, with a good continental selection, different spreads, and milk in a glass bottle. The staff were absolutely beautiful. They also care about the environment: there are separate bins for recycling and rubbish, and you only use the towels you need. The shower pressure was great. I'm an early bird, and that shower felt like a massage.

The furniture and fittings feel luxurious, from the bed and seats to the curtains, carpet, and tiles. These are modern, well-kept units. There was a spa bath, and thick robes were laid out on the bed for relaxing.

Parking is right beside the rooms, and when we asked, the office staff promptly turned on the wall heaters. The rooms warmed up quickly. The accommodation itself is comfortable and up to date, with the basics covered, an efficient kitchen, and a large, delightful whirlpool bath.

We stayed in a self-contained cabin with a good kitchen, a wonderful bathroom, and a separate bedroom. That bedroom mattered, since I could turn in earlier. The place is generally close to central Oamaru and about 6 km from the old part of town.

The Mews was the best place we stayed during our travels around NZ. It was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. I only wish we could have stayed longer.
