The lodge and hot tubs are in a beautiful spot, and Grant is a lovely host. The facilities are clean and top notch. My partner and I always book the tubs when we stay at Kakanui, it’s such a relaxing experience. We’ll be back as always.

The spacious green camper spots, each with a bench, made this a lovely place to stay right by the beach. Our host was super friendly, and the grounds were really well kept. There’s a washing machine, sink, toilet and shower for campers, though just one bathroom means you might have to wait. We loved it, and the price was great, even lower than most DOC sites. Feels like a bit of a hidden gem.
Grant is a lovely guy, and the place was so peaceful. The beach nearby is beautiful, often with sea mist drifting over it. It’s a couple of kilometres down the beach road from the main road. There are a few powered sites, a lodge and some lovely hot tubs. Campers share one clean, warm bathroom with a toilet and shower cubicle, a nice way to start the day. A powered site was $30. Such a great find, highly recommended.
It’s quiet, dog friendly and close to a gorgeous ocean beach, with very nice facilities. Make sure you try the hot tub, the views are exceptional!
We went to Old Bones Lodge for the hot tubs and had a wonderful time. The tub felt like a little oasis, with the ocean behind it. Grant and Karen were friendly and keen to make the visit relaxing. Highly recommend!
