We were six people, and everyone liked their room and was impressed with the service. The lodge is in a great spot, only about a three-minute walk into town. The owner was so helpful throughout our stay, giving clear directions, showing us a handy shortcut to the hotel for dinner, and answering all our questions with real enthusiasm. When we arrived in the evening, she’d met us at the ferry without us asking. We walked up because she had other guests to take, but she kindly brought our bags to the accommodation. Since we were setting off on the Rakiura Track the next morning, that was much appreciated. Nothing seemed like a bother. We had a wonderful stay and would happily book here again.

The location is great, the staff are friendly, and the motel rooms are a good size. But the advertised WiFi in Room 12 barely worked, and staff said there was nothing they could do about it. Other rooms at the Boy Motel might be fine if you need to stay connected while visiting Oban, but I wouldn’t count on Room 12.

We had a really enjoyable two-night stay. The rooms were very clean, and the hosts were so helpful. We asked for a ferry pickup, though it’s an easy ten-minute walk. We watched Korero from the balcony outside our room, and there was a lovely BBQ area too.

It’s a short walk, about five minutes, from the airport transfer. Room 12 is spacious enough for three, and birds can be seen outside. It’s a quiet place to sleep. I’d suggest it for a family of four.

The suites are good value at competitive rates, with bathrooms and fully equipped kitchenettes. Everything was very clean and in good condition. A fantastic place to stay on Stewart Island.
