Harbour View Motel

The harbour view was one of the best I’ve had, and the bed, kitchenette and bathroom were all very good too. Staff got our room ready quickly when we arrived early. It’s right in central Picton and only a short drive from the ferry, though walking seems doable. Parking takes a bit of care, and a car larger than our Suzuki Swift might struggle if the lot is full. There’s street parking just outside as well. I really enjoyed this rather luxurious motel and can’t recommend it enough.

The owner went out of his way for me the next day, letting me leave my bags downstairs while I walked around, then personally driving me to the bus stop so I wouldn’t have to walk in the rain. That kindness made me want to return. I’d booked this quaint, well cared for motel at the last minute, and arrived in a poor mood after my late ferry meant I’d missed Picton’s only bus that day. Check-in was quick, the place was clean, and the town grocery store was close enough to stock up before everything shut early. With rain falling for nearly my whole 24-hour stay, the strong shower, well-equipped kitchenette and balcony overlooking the harbour were especially welcome. I could sit there watching the boats come in. Highly recommend it.

The two-bedroom apartment’s kitchen was equipped so well it felt like home. The rooms and bedding are a little tired, but everything was clean. From the harbour, watching the ferry arrive in the morning was a special treat. It was quiet enough, and just a two-minute drive to the ferry terminal. Parking is off-street, though the hairpin turns on the driveway make getting around a bit tricky.

The harbour views and location near the main street were the main draw for us, with restaurants and a supermarket nearby. Rooms were clean, with a basic kitchen that had a cooktop, pots and utensils, and the shower pressure was good. Check-in was quick and easy, and the staff were friendly. Wi-Fi wasn’t great, but it didn’t take away from our stay since we came for the location and views.
