Robert and Eileen were wonderful hosts, and we wished we could have stayed longer. The hostel was clean and really nice, with a big kitchen and lounge that had everything we needed. Being right on the beach was perfect for sunset, and there are plenty of hiking tracks nearby.

One of my best hostel stays in NZ so far. The hosts are kind and welcoming, and the location is amazing for starting or finishing the Paparoa Great Walk. The dorm rooms are spacious and clean, and the kitchen is well equipped. There’s nothing like making a hot cup of tea, then taking the one-minute walk to watch the ocean splash against the rocks.

Gloria and I had a stay we won’t forget. The ocean is right at the doorstep, and we could enjoy magical sunsets without leaving the property. You can even see Paparoa National Park from the living room. What made Punakaiki Beach Hostel especially meaningful for us was Rob, Eileen, Anita, and Mariam. They were so warm, generous and caring that we felt like part of the family. On Christmas Day they cooked an amazing meal for everyone, then there was another shared dinner the next evening. Sharing food, stories and laughter captured the heart of this special place. Thank you, we’ll definitely return! Paul and Gloria

WOW is the only way I can describe this place. The ocean is right there in all its glory, and the location is amazing. But Rob and Eileen are what make it really special. Their care and love for the house and guests went beyond anywhere we’d stayed before. They made us feel like family, like we’d come home after a long journey.

We liked our stay so much that we came back a few days later. The managers and workers made us feel welcome. It’s a really clean hostel, with comfortable beds, a cosy living room and a kitchen stocked with what you need. Plus, the view is amazing. Definitely worth stopping in.
