Punakaiki Beachfront Motels

The sunset views were wonderful, and there are benches right on the path by the shore. Unit one is right beside the beach, and we could hear the ocean. Our family of four found it clean and homely, a simple beach cottage. The showers worked, and the mattresses and pillows were VERY comfortable. We slept really well. There were enough hangers and good lighting throughout. Tea, coffee, milk, cups, a kettle, fridge, microwave, stove, plates and casserole dishes were there to get us started. There aren’t any grocery stores I could see nearby, so stock up in a larger town if you plan to cook or want a simple breakfast. There are restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but they’re $$$. The Wi-Fi didn’t work. Only some windows had fly screens, so the insects were pesky.

We’d booked a while earlier, but when we arrived in the afternoon the room was still dirty from the previous guests and hadn’t been made up. It was raining, and we didn’t want to wait for it to be cleaned. They were fine about refunding me and offered us a drink, but we decided to drive home. It was confusing to know where to check in because the connected house is now private. Finding the higher-numbered units next door was also difficult, especially in the pouring rain. Those higher-numbered units aren’t beachfront.

An excellent place to stay, clean and within an easy walk of the Pancake Rocks and the other hikes in the area. Graig and Sue are super hosts.

We stayed in a cabin on March 31. It was a great location and just the right size for a couple. But the carpet hadn’t been vacuumed, the bathroom floor wasn’t clean, and the previous guest’s garbage was still there. If it had been cleaned, it would have been excellent. Dave & Sandra
