The campsite was nice, but I’ve rated it three stars because the showers shut off after five minutes. That wasn’t enough time for my partner to wash her hair. I understand not wanting people to take ages, but five minutes is excessive when you pay to use the facilities and should be able to wash your hair if you want to.

This is the campsite to choose for convenience, with town an easy walk away and Raglan right on your doorstep. The kitchen and showers are great, and the grounds were consistently clean. There aren’t views from the camper or tent, but you’re in a great spot to enjoy what Raglan has to offer.

The location is fantastic, right by the beach and a short walk from lovely Raglan, with its restaurants, cafés, shops and great vibe. We chose an unpowered site and paid to select our spot. I’m glad we did, because the powered sites looked very close together. Some sites are beside the dump station and bins, where the smell when people empty their portaloos is gross, with other campers nearby. At $50 per person per night for an unpowered site, that wasn’t great. There’s a good kitchen and plenty to do, but the showers in Flounder Avenue need upgrading. Three ran cold, and the warm or hot ones had such low pressure I couldn’t wash my hair. We also had a family park beside us the night before we left, and they smoked heavily, so we had to shut our windows. As someone else mentioned, smoking is an issue. The park should put smokers together.

The beachside campsites are spacious, with a playground for kids and activities and movie nights put on by the campground. It’s a short walk over the bridge into town. There’s also a large public playground next door and a little shop selling fish and chips, and I think ice creams too, though I didn’t see it open for ice cream. The kitchen facilities are good, the bathrooms reasonably clean and adequate, and the shower pressure was quite good. We only stayed a couple of nights, but we’re keen to return. The smoking was the one big downside, and I deducted a star for it. I breathed cigarette smoke wherever I walked, which was unpleasant. I haven’t experienced anything like that since the 90s. My daughter has severe asthma, so I was concerned, though thankfully it didn’t trigger her too much. Cigarette butts were all over the ground, which was pretty gross, and I’ve never seen that at a campground before. We’re seasoned campers. The campground could follow others by going smoke-free or setting up a designated smoking area. That would make it much more pleasant for non-smokers.

We had a fantastic time at Raglan Holiday Park. The relaxed, welcoming atmosphere made it feel like a peaceful getaway, and it seems like a great fit for families, couples or anyone looking for a quiet break. The park is clean and well maintained, with tidy facilities and beautiful views in a great location. We really enjoyed our stay and would happily return.
