We were lucky with the weather and got to sit outside after being out and about. The accommodation was excellent, the staff fantastic, and the location great. This place was 5 star all the way.

My wife found this gem for our two nights in wine country, and we thoroughly enjoyed the stay. There are lovely views, apartment-like amenities and several wineries within walking distance. The manager was friendly and helpful. You can pick up a bottle of local wine in the lobby or borrow a DVD, too.

I’m hugely disappointed with Vintners Retreat. We booked three nights but cancelled after the Marlborough Lines Classic Fighters Airshow was cancelled. I messaged to explain what had happened, and they said they had to charge a cancellation fee and that we should have taken “Travel insurance.” I’m not sure anyone offers travel insurance for a trip within your own island, though I could be wrong. They charged us $720. Several motel owners I spoke to said that wouldn’t be their policy at all. I’d have been happy to pay $200, but $720 is outrageous. That’s a lot of hard-earned money gone, and I won’t encourage anyone to book here.

The views are amazing, and the location is great, close to all the vineyards. My kids spent the whole day playing and talking with Alexa. This is the best place we’ve stayed in NZ so far, and also the priciest.

The host was friendly and helpful, and the apartment was very spacious, with a full kitchen, balcony and terrace looking over a vineyard. We had peaceful evening views of the stars. We LOVED this hotel and absolutely hated leaving.
