ASURE Rotorua International Motor Inn

The room was clean and spacious, parking was free, and check-in went smoothly with very friendly staff. But the smell of cleaning products was overwhelming. It seemed like the whole room had been sprayed, and even airing it out for hours didn’t clear it. We got headaches from it. We thought about moving, but stayed because we couldn’t find another option. Breakfast was odd too: just two dishes to pick from, served only until 9 a.m., with nothing for vegetarians. Check-out rules are strict. Staying past 10 a.m. costs NZD 50 per hour, and extra towels cost NZD 5. Yet the bathroom doesn’t even have two proper towel hooks. There are a few loose metal plates instead, and they look like they could fall off soon. I wouldn’t book here again.

I was here for business and didn’t get to use all the extra facilities, but I’d stay again. The rooms were tidy and nice, and it was a really good place compared with some others I’ve tried. One pillow had a small stain, nothing too bad. The staff were wonderful, kind and helpful. Our door had a problem, so we couldn’t use the spa on the first night. When I asked, reception took reasonable steps to sort it out. Because of the hours, we did get half an hour in the tub, but that part couldn’t be controlled.

The shampoo dispenser in the bathroom was broken, and after getting back late at night I couldn’t shower properly. No one offered a fix. There wasn’t even a chair in the room, or a decent spot for clothes and belongings, so guests are left sitting on the bed. The facilities and management were poor, with no attention to basic needs. Huge disappointment, the worst hotel I’ve stayed in. Avoid it.

We had a nice family stay and would come back, though the spa pool seemed close to the end of its life. We filled it and used it anyway. The swimming pool was small and pretty crowded, so my shy kids didn’t get to swim. I wish we’d stayed for two nights.
