Greenview Motel

At least the rooms were clean. But the furniture was falling apart, with torn upholstery and chair springs sticking out, and the room was so bare it didn't even have a bedside light. It's almost laughably bad. Some rooms are advertised with a beach view at a premium price, but from the shared balcony you might only see the beach if you stand on a chair with binoculars. The motel is beside a busy, noisy road. I've stayed in plenty of cheap motels, and this was probably the worst. If you're looking to spend as little as possible in Rotorua and don't care about your surroundings, this could suit you.

The hot pools were dangerously hot to get into. We had to use a hose to cool one down enough to use it. The place is very old, the beds felt like they should've been replaced 20 years ago, and springs were coming through. Bathrooms had poor ventilation, and the kitchens weren't well equipped. The website pictures also didn't match what you actually get.

The check-in woman was nice, but that was about it. The bed was awful, with springs poking through the mattress. The pool and hot pools sounded appealing, but the hot pools weren't hot at all. The area wasn't great, with a gas station right next door, and it was pretty loud. The curtains were terrible, their backing was worn out. It felt like one of the worst places I've stayed, a bit like the Bates Motel. I paid $130 for the night and should have asked for my money back and gone somewhere else.

The whole motel is run down and in desperate need of repairs. There's an unbearable strange smell throughout, including in our room, which felt neglected, almost like staying in an abandoned building. They hadn't changed our pillowcases, and one side of a pillow was dirty and smelled of the previous guest. The kitchen was very old, with a random mix of cups and utensils like free things from an op shop. The bathroom and toilet were just as old and neglected, and the shower and taps had hardly any pressure. The Wi-Fi kept dropping, the TV didn't work, and the flimsy louvre windows could easily be turned so someone could look into the room or toilet. Our room was somewhat clean, but the negatives were too much, especially for the price. I'd never stay again and don't recommend it. You'd think motels would have to meet some kind of healthy homes standard, but apparently not.
