Thermal Oak Motel

We came for a girls' trip in mid-March, and I'd happily stay here again. The place was very nice inside, with a car park right outside, and it's so handy for getting around Rotorua. Reception was lovely to deal with, communicated well, and was flexible with our requests. I'd recommend it to others too.

We stayed two nights and enjoyed it. Family room number 1 was quite large and comfortable for our family. Even on a busy night, it stayed very quiet.

I chose this place for the many good reviews and very reasonable price, though I was wary because the motels I'd visited in the US hadn't been great for cleanliness or safety. The check-in went smoothly. I mistakenly unloaded our luggage in the lobby, but there was parking beside our unit, so I could have unloaded there instead. Our clean three-bedroom unit had a small kitchenette, an L-shaped sofa, and a dining table. The toilets were spacious with constant hot water, and the beds were comfortable, so we all slept well. The location was very good too, with a short walk into town and an even shorter drive. I'd stay again if I came back. Just a heads-up, there's a sulfur smell outside the unit, though it was fine indoors. It seems normal throughout Rotorua.

It was clean, but very basic, and I can't say much more about the hotel. Restaurants in the centre of Rotarua were a good 30-35 minute walk away.
