We were happy with the stay for the price, and the quieter location suited us since we had our own car to get into town. The staff were polite, if not especially chatty, and made a little small talk about the weather. The rules are numerous and breaking them can mean a fee, but they seemed reasonable. Bathrooms were very clean, the shower water got so hot I needed to add cold, and there was plenty of fridge, freezer and kitchen space. Laundry machines cost $1 or $2. The mattresses were fine for the price, and a welcome change after a week on roll mats, even if they weren’t hotel quality. I’m not sure who wrote the many negative reviews, but they seemed to expect a hotel at a budget holiday park. The shared kitchen could be cleaner, as guests often leave mess behind, so bringing your own cookware is a good idea. There are three four-element stoves, though half the elements don’t work. WiFi reached reception and the kitchen, but not areas farther away. For a hostel or campground, we found that acceptable. We booked a basic room for three adults to avoid camping in heavy rain, and I don’t usually write reviews, but thought this place deserved a more accurate one.

The host was very helpful, and the bathrooms were quite luxurious and cleaned well every day. We spent three nights in a cabin at this nice campground near Te Anau, after booking late and finding everything else full. The cabins are comfortable and have a nice view, though they sit in a single row, so having someone snoring in the cabin next door wouldn’t be ideal.

We were very happy staying here and would recommend it. The room was spotless, the kitchen had everything we needed, the beds were comfortable, and there were chocolate treats waiting as a welcome. The receptionist was polite, kind and patient. Checking in took a bit longer because of my disability, and some younger people in line behind me were so loud it was hard to hear. She rightly asked them to keep it down, and wasn’t mean about it at all. Please don’t let earlier ratings put you off. It’s really quite nice here. Thank you, Herbert & Angelica.

We stopped for one night while travelling in our campervan from Milford Sound to Te Anau. The spacious site and the best bathrooms we’ve had made for a lovely stay. Check-in was simple, too. Thanks!

We booked about two hours ahead while driving back from Milford Sound, and were surprised by how quiet the area was and how spacious the campervan spots were. The bathrooms were the nicest we’ve come across on our campervan travels from Christchurch: clean and warm, with great water pressure and loads of room to shower. The woman at the desk was very sweet, attentive and patient when we arrived late in the evening. The reviews had surprised us, but I’d give this place a go. Thanks for a comfortable stay.
