The Fort. Timaru

The room was quite cold, and noise from the neighboring rooms and other guests carried through easily. Still, we had a pleasant one-night stay in a one-bedroom unit with its own bathroom and shower. The access codes made check-in and check-out very easy, with flexibility around arrival and departure. It wasn't spotless, but it was satisfactory for a short stay. There was also a small breakfast in the shared kitchen, a thoughtful extra. It was an affordable, convenient stop in Timaru, especially if you're heading south on the island.

The hallways leading to the upstairs rooms smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. I couldn't smell it in the rooms or shared bathrooms, but anyone sensitive to smoke may want to keep that in mind. Apart from that, it's well worth the money: right in the town centre, with self check-in, free secure parking, a bar, clean modern rooms, plenty of bathrooms, a well-equipped kitchen and a light breakfast.

The bar was closed on Tuesday while we were there, unfortunately. My uncle lives in Timaru and says it's an amazing place, so we'll be back. The location near the hospital was perfect, and it was the cleanest place we've stayed, as well as nice and quiet. Very impressed, thank you 😊

Really good value for money, and I'd highly recommend it. The guesthouse is modern and new, with tasteful decor and a clean, comfortable room. It's very central, with restaurants and shops within walking distance.
