Wood Pigeon Lodge

We had a memorable few days in The Hut. The shops are quite a drive away, so bring what you need, though the trip there is beautiful. Once evening comes, the place is warm and the fire makes it really cosy. Tim was friendly and quick to help if we needed anything extra. The mountain view is lovely too, especially from the deck with a glass of wine.

The Tree House at the Wood Pigeon Lodge was a lovely spot to slow down, switch off from our phones, light the fire and enjoy the quiet. We heard plenty of nature, plus a faint train hum in the distance, and the view was spectacular. Even though it was about 14 degrees when we arrived in the late afternoon and we expected a cold night, the well-insulated tree house was surprisingly warm. There were extra blankets if needed, though we didn't use them, and the fireplace kept things comfortable. Tim handled the booking and payment professionally and helped us get settled. We used the WPL Tree House as a base for rafting in Turangi, quad biking in National Park, a day in Taupo and dinner out in Ohakune. It would also be a great quiet place for creative work, so bring a guitar or writing materials. I appreciated the effort to reduce their carbon footprint. This is natural, eco-friendly accommodation, and I'd love to come back.

A cozy winter retreat, with a wood fireplace and a great host. The Hut is only a short drive from the ski fields. We had a wonderful stay and would happily return next season.

The cabin was comfortable, and we managed to do laundry and make a couple of meals ourselves. We spent two nights at The Hut in June on a beautiful property. The owners had a fire going for us the first night and came by to welcome us. The bush bath didn't work out for us.
